Just a few weeks left before the election, and the possibilities are mind-boggling. This is just a note to thank all of you who are working so hard to write letters, canvas voters, make phone calls, and everything else you can do to help aim for a good outcome. All are necessary, and we will see.

We are making plans for election week gatherings beginning with Tuesday night Nov. 5 and continuing with day-time and evening gatherings through Friday night Nov. 8. If you are able and willing to host a shift of a few hours Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, please let me know. Members of the Fellowship Care and Support Team, Committee on Ministry and Board of Directors will be helping out as well.

Connect Up Sip & Snack at NAMASTE, 10/25

Come Friday, October 25, it may be a foggy and/or drizzly day for a drive up the valley, but with the company of UUFC friends, we should all feel warm and happy.

This time we’ll go to NAMASTE Vineyard at 5600 Van Well Road in Dallas, OR. If you haven’t been before, they have a large, lovingly-restored barn with a huge fireplace.

They’re open from 11 – 5 daily and have a FIVE WINE FLIGHT ($25). They also offer wine by the glass, ciders, beer and non-alcoholic drinks. They offer small plates (fruit & cheese, meat & cheese, or large charcuterie board) and they’re fine with us bringing our own food.

Wine Passport holders have a BOGO wine flight option. For everyone else, the tasting cost is waived with the purchase of a $50 bottle of wine.

We’ll meet at 11:30 at the UU parking lot to begin our Friday foray. Try to be arrive timely so we can hit the road promptly.

Secure Housing and Food for All, 10/20

Secure Housing and Food for all is meeting Sunday October 20 at 11:30 in the Library. We will make plans for a Spooky table at the UUFC Holiday event on 10/27 and talk about the what’s happening with the unhoused in Corvallis. We will also discuss a display in the Social Hall for December and January for the Social Concerns of CDDC – Corvallis Daytime Drop-In Center and US – Unity Shelter, two groups UUFC has been supporting for many years. Join us!

Classroom Wing Renovation Update

All architectural and engineering plans are currently being reviewed by city officials for permitting, which could take up to mid-December to be (hopefully) approved. Gerding construction plans to start onsite work January 20, 2025. Prior to that construction start, UUFC volunteers will prep the building from December 20th through 30th. Many hands hopefully will help in early January to move boxes and furniture out of the building into storage.

Wolfgang Dengler is the coordinator for volunteers. More information and requests for help with offsite storage and moving help will come in early December .

“When We Say ‘Community'” 9/20/24

As Unitarian Universalists we are each free to believe what makes sense to us, and to keep learning and changing our minds as needed. Since folks aren’t attracted to this religious way for specific beliefs or creeds (though some come specifically for the lack of such), it follows that most folks, when asked, say that they come for “community.” But what do we mean when we say that? Does it come anywhere close to the poet Joy Harjo’s definition: “the songs, stories and poems which illuminate our experience and make possible healing, wholeness, goodness, and justice, over time and generations.” Could we grow into that kind of community? Given the state of the world, can we settle for anything less?

Music Theology, 11/17-12/8

Come wrestle with age-old questions like:
~ Is there a god?
~Am I worthy of love? and
~Why the heck am I even here?
through popular music from artists like AJR, Billie Eilish, Myles Smith, and more. 

We won’t give you answers to any of these questions, but we’ll deepen our connection with the sacred and with one another by wrestling with them together through the lens of pop culture. And who knows? Maybe we’ll even walk away with some new favorite songs! 

Please note that this gathering is rated M for explicit language and mature themes.

A huge thank you to Tom Gabe for his help with installing gutter guard around the perimeter of the Fellowship building. He spent many hours over many days climbing on ladders and working on the roof in awkward positions to complete this preventive maintenance project. Queerly Beloved, 10/20

Queerly Beloved gathering on October 20th 4 pm to 6 pm at the UU Fellowship. This Friday happens to be “National Coming Out Day”… and we wish you all a very happy Coming Out! And at the same time we recognize that there are stages of coming out, and some people are safer choosing to keep parts of their life private. And we recognize that coming out is a process that never really ends! So wherever you are in your journey – we honor you! Join us on Sunday, Oct 20th for our regular QB meetup. Linda and Anya will be hosting some fun, cooperative board games as well as a jigsaw puzzle table.

Come to socialize, and share in queer community, even if you don’t like playing board games! Kids ages 7 and up can probably participate in these games; if you need childcare for smaller children, please contact the Grandfolks Squad.
