Sip & Snack Sunday 6/9

Break out the sunscreen and join UU’s for an afternoon at BENEDITTO VINEYARD for wine tasting on their beautiful deck. Beneditto’s was a surprise winery last year and definitely worth visiting. They are west of Dallas just off Hwy 22 at 14020 Orchard Knob Road. They open at noon and it takes about 45 minutes to get there.

Bring food to share with the group and if you have a wine passport, the tasting is free. We will plan to leave UUFC after the service. You might consider carpooling. Please contact Heather E if you plan to attend so she can alert the Vineyard of our numbers.

Outreach Offerings in June

Our outreach offerings for the month of June will once again support Flaming Chalice International, the non-profit organization founded by Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana to support both Burundian Unitarian refugees and Unitarians within Burundi. Our contributions help support job training, scholarships, housing and food for refugees, social justice projects focused on women’s health and dignity, and maintaining clean water supplies in remote villages. The Fellowship has been part of this international partnership for more than ten years. Our support makes a difference in lives of many Burundians and in the health and growth of global UUism.

Between Us

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the death of Louise Ferrell, who died on Tuesday May 28. Louise was the last of those who were founders or earliest members of the Fellowship; she was an active member and leader for more than sixty years. The Fellowship was deeply important to her; she nurtured and supported it, she took responsibility for its well-being and for the well-being of many other members. She painted more of the building than many others combined, and so much more.

Generations are shifting at the Fellowship. This is how it should be and how it must be. If we are lucky, the Fellowship and its values and commitments will outlive most of us, and will remain a gift and a resource to many, many people who will come after us. Those of us who are here now are recipients of the gifts of so many who came before us, and our job is to pass on the gift. In order to do that, we have to be present now, active now, taking care now, helping each other now.

Many people come to the Fellowship. Some stay a short while, some stay longer, some stay for their whole lives. Those who stay find sources of sustenance and purpose primarily by giving of themselves, by having a sense of responsibility for our shared goals and values. I can think of no greater source of fulfillment in life than to have been committed to something worthy of commitment. Louise was a model person in this way, for me and for many others. May we now become the bearers of her legacy.

Pride Day in Albany, 6/22

June 22 is Pride Day in Albany—a big wonderful party with performers, information, advocacy. Joyce Marvel-Benoist and JF Benoist have been hosting a Support Booth each year on the lawn near the stage.
This booth makes space for people to come get a snack, relax and create some calm, ask for support, feel accepted.

We are looking for helpers that day for 2-3 hour shifts. You must be emotionally mature, and good at being present and calm and welcoming.

UUFC Secure housing and Food for All

Thanks to all for food and clothing for our unhoused neighbors. With Summer coming on SORT – the Street Out Reach Team – has need of food for those who cannot make it to the Corvallis Drop-in Center.

Here is a list – (please nothing that takes a microwave. Can make hot water or heat up small cans):

  • peanut butter
  • soup and stew preferably with pop top lids
  • juice boxes
  • canned fruit also with pop top lids
  • instant oatmeal
  • ramen noodles
  • cheese and cracker packets

Thank you for your support –and if you have an hour or more on weekends, Stone Soup needs volunteers. Stone Soup has been serving one hot meal every day for over 2 decades, for anyone who asks.
