Dear Congregation:
This year, some of the children in our Religious Exploration programs are learning Unitarian Universalist history. So, to keep a theme between all ages for learning, I am including more UU history in sermons this month. Last week, in the October 4 sermon, I named some key words that help me summarize our history:

Three terms that can be used to sum up the traits that Unitarian history brings into our current movement:
Reason
Tolerance
Freedom

Three terms that can be used to sum up the traits that Universalist history brings into our current movement:
Faith
Hope
Love

Those were needed for survival at various points in history. And they are needed today. For us, the question is: how do we need to live into each of those, and how do we need to update our application?

Of note, the seven keywords currently used in UU Religious Exploration to summarize our meaning:
Justice
Equity
Transformation
Pluralism
Inclusion
Generosity
…with Love at the Center.

May these frameworks help guide our actions and give us comfort.
With care,
Rev. Alex
