UUFC Pledge Drive Review

The annual pledge drive is the lifeblood of our Fellowship. To understand what worked well and identify how we can do even better, we’re conducting a review of the messaging and process of our recently completed, successful drive For this review, we’re conducting short, one-on-one interviews with a random selection of those who pledged.

If you receive an email with subject “UUFC Pledge Drive Review”, please open, read, and respond to let us know if you will or will not participate, and if yes, when works best for you and your preference as to in-person, zoom, or phone.

Questions: Michael Hughes at treasurer@uucorvallis.org, or talk with me after service. Thank you.

Sip & Snack FULLERTON WINES, 7/26

Step up your “chic quotient” with a visit to Fullerton, the most spendy of venues this season. We will meet at the tasting room at noon on Friday July 26th. The address is 804 NW Buchanan Ave in Corvallis. Look for the signs! This is a Wine Passport eligible venue and is another “buy one, get one” (BOGO) location. The Signature Flight is $30 for five wines. For $20 more, you can opt for the AVA Flight of six Willamette Valley Pinot Noirs.

No outside food permitted. Plan to spend ~ $10.00 -18.00 for individual plates, or 2-4 people could split a cheese board. It’s possible to reserve a cheese and charcuterie buffet at $15.00 per person. These logistics are more difficult than carpooling, so BE SURE to let Heather know if you’re coming and your preference.

PLEASE email Heather at hvephd@gmail.com BY WEDNESDAY 7/24 so she knows you plan to participate. If we exceed 6 people, a reservation will be needed. Heather will send driving directions and particulars to those attending before Friday.

Hope to see you there!

This is a “Connect Up” activity.

Board of Directors Report for June 18

The June Board of Directors meeting started with a mouthwatering potluck to welcome next year’s board, and we were joined by Skyla King-Christison and Russ Karow. Skyla reported that the children and youth Religious Exploration programs are seeing some definite recovery from pandemic lows. Adult RE plans are in development. There will be interesting and meaningful opportunities for all. Russ presented a revised draft of the Endowment Fund Policy. Money in our endowment fund may not be spent, and the interest will be used for the long-term benefit of the Fellowship. We discussed details of fund management and interest distribution and will see a final draft of the policy in July. We also discussed a draft fundraising policy, aimed at clarifying how we manage our fundraising events. The Board looks forward to more fun(d) discussions in the future.

Sip & Snack Sunday, 7/14

Are you ready for some boche ball at CARDWELL HILLS CELLARS for wine tasting with fellow UU’s? Hope so. We’ll meet in the UU parking lot on Sunday July 14 at 11:45.

The Cellar is an easy 25-minute drive away. Bring finger-food snacks to share with the group as we enjoy a glass of wine and get to know one another! If you are a wine passport holder, this is a BOGO event (half off). It’s predicted to be sunny and will be toasty by 3 p.m. so bring a water bottle. They have a lovely, wide porch.

We will leave the UUFC after the service; you might consider carpooling.

RSVP to Heather so she can alert the Cellar of our numbers. Heather will send participants a confirmation email on Saturday.

Between Us

I’m so grateful for the group of Fellowship folks who are presenting the Sunday service this week, “Imagine Peace.” Bill Glassmire gave us the starting point with his questions: “What does PEACE mean to you? no war? good relations with your neighbors? a life with enough for everyone?” It’s easy to think that peace, or perhaps world peace, is too much to aim for, too hard to even imagine. Yet we know, we do know, that we either create more peace or create obstacles to peace with every action, every step we take.

Let’s not let our imaginations wither, for if we cannot imagine peace we cannot help create it. How DO you imagine peace? practicing humility? practicing forgiveness? being other-centered?outgrowing a need to be right? being less afraid? sharing space, sharing homes, sharing money? remembering that people are more important than things, that animals are as important as people? learning to center yourself in the breath which is given each moment? Was there ever a better time than now to give our attention to creating peace? Thank-you to all of you who are joining in this conversation.

Tuna Roast & Picnic, 9/2

Looking for a fun and relaxing way to spend Labor Day? Join us for our annual tuna roast and picnic in the park! Plan to bring along your own plate, utensils, and drink ware, and a dish to share with others. Seating is limited so camping chairs are also encouraged. Marinated, grilled, fresh tuna and corn on the cob will be provided. Volunteers will be needed to help and a link to sign up will be provided soon. Contact Rich Brainerd with questions.

DEMOCRACY ACTION TEAM – Let’s Meet and Chat, 7/14

CASUAL GATHERING! – 7/14 after Sunday Service Come join us in the Sanctuary Gallery at 11:45 to:

• meet Democracy Action Team coordinators and anyone interested in our work

• hear what we’re doing in the run-up to the 2024 election in November

• join us to write letters and put stamps on them

• and just to chat about what we can do to strengthen our Democracy.

Thanks to all of you who have contributed to the UUFC Stamp Fund. You have donated enough to pay for 15,000 stamps!!! You have enabled people to be free to write without worry about postage. We wrote over 20,000 letters to prospective voters in swing states in both 2020 and 2022 and we’ve been writing since March for 2024.

Mini Film Festival, 7/21

“Making the Invisible Visible.” What are the challenges and gifts that often go unnoticed for those with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or divergence? You are invited to come and see for yourself. You’ll be glad you did! We hope you’ll grab your favorite beverage from the social hall and join us Sunday July 21, in the Sanctuary for 3 short, outstanding “Sprout” documentaries. You’ll laugh, cry, and be inspired by stories filled with courage, humor, love, romance, and compassion.

Brought to you by a collaboration of The Arc of Benton County and UUFC justice teams: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), Climate Action (CAT), and Secure Food and Housing for All (SF&H). Questions? Contact elonameyer@icloud.com
