The Welcoming Congregation program was developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) in 1990. It grew out of the recognition that while most UU congregations professed support for and openness toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people, the lived experience of individuals was often quite different. This needed to change.
The UUFC has embraced this program since its inception, working to increase awareness of LGBTQ issues and nurture a truly welcoming atmosphere within our UU community and beyond. The UUFC’s Living the Welcoming Congregation Committee leads these efforts—feel free to share your concerns and get involved. We need all of you!
The Welcoming Congregation Bulletin is a publication of the UUA’s Multicultural Ministries, the team that empowers leaders and congregations to replace barriers to participation in our movement with ever-widening circles of solidarity and mutual respect. Check it out.
